While driving home last night I saw that the check engine light came on so I drove over to Pep Boys. Before taking the car in to the shop the manager asked if I had the gas filled recently and if the cap was on which reminded me that I had stopped for gas right before getting on the highway to drive home on Sunday. The manager walked out to the car with me to see if that was the issue and indeed the cap was totally not screwed on. He said that that’s probably why the engine light was on (something to do with vapors) and that it should turn off after about 20 miles or so. After driving in to work this morning the light is still on so I’m not quite sure how this will play itself out.
I'd like to give a big shout out to NJ and its ban on self-service gas stations and to the skeevy gas attendant guy at the Lukoil gas station!

This past weekend I took Liv down to NJ to visit my Mom. On Saturday morning we hit the quirky Rockland Bakery in Nanuet, NY where we, the general public, were allowed to roam the large plant floor completely unsupervised while various bread making was going on right around us. It reminded me of the marketplace section of Ikea: chaotically organized and swarming with people. But instead of people rifling through bins of rugs, picture frames and clocks there were bins and bins of dinner rolls and endless racks of irish soda bread and various baguettes. They asked that people wear gloves but I'm not too sure how many people adhered to this request - which of course I'll think about the next time I'm out at a restaurant and reach for a dinner roll.

It's comforting to know that Amy moved on from those swarmy videos she made with her husband and got herself a new job .

In looking for photos of the blue-spine unicornfish I came across some great galleries:
The New York Public Library's Digital Gallery. I've been lost in this gallery all morning. There are so many collections here from vintage posters to illustrated zoologies. Amazing. And then there's the Library of Congress. They have several neat sets on Flickr, such as the Photocrom Travel View and the 1930's - 1940's, but too many idiotic notations on the photos left me being annoyed. I tried to go straight to the source but couldn't connect to their server. Will definitely have to keep trying.

Steven Kurutz recently wrote an article about the Amish electric fireplace aka the adult toy sounding Heat Surge Roll-n-Glow. (You may remember my earlier post on this.)
Below is an excerpt from the article, where Mr. Baker, V.P. of Roll-n-Glow, opines on the heater's popularity:

"Mr. Baker said even he was somewhat surprised at the way the heater had captured the public's attention.Hmmmmmm.....'skintight baggy pants'? I of course did what any other person would do and did a Google image search of this. I never thought I'd see a horrendous Thomas Kinkade painting, Elton John in tartan plaid from head to toe and ass pictures for a 'Natural Buttocks Enhancement Cream' all on one page. I love Google image.
"I think a lot of it goes back to the irony of the Amish and an electric fireplace," he said. "How can that be? It's like skintight baggy pants."
Oofta!

Check out these awesome bentos by anna the red. I love that she did one of Katamari Damacy! And the Colossus cheese toast is just insane.

There are some things that I think would make it easier to leave the house on time during this season:
A remote car starter and/or a garage. Or better yet, how about a wee one who lived in the trunk of my car who could just help me out when needed? That actually has some all season potential right there.
This way I could focus on the important things before tending to the car like snoozing the alarm 5 more times and then milking it even longer online.
